Multisport stars tore up the pavement Sunday, April 6, at the legendary Carlsbad 5000 road run race, known as the "World's Fastest 5km."
Emerging short-course stud Jarrod Shoemaker busted out a 14:32 run to beat Michael Chavez of Anaheim, California, by 12 seconds in the Men/Women 29 and Under division. Though times were slow across the board, Shoemaker, the first guy named to the 2008 U.S. Olympic Triathlon Team, looked strong. Reigning USA Triathlon U-23 national champion Ethan Brown took seventh in 14:57.
The women of multisport rocked in California as well, with U.S. Olympic Team hopeful Julie Ertel winning the women's 30-39 title by 24 seconds in 17:05 and 1997 Ironman Hawaii world champion Heather Fuhr taking the Masters women division in 17:11.
